Stoner blasts 'dangerous' Donington

MotoGP championship leader Casey Stoner has launched a scathing attack on the Donington Park track as "dangerous" ahead of Sunday's Nickel & Dime British Grand Prix.

The Australian topped the timesheets during free practice on Friday when it was battered by torrential rain but was far from happy. With forecasters predicting showers for the remainder of the weekend, the Ducati Marlboro rider criticised the grip in wet conditions at the layout which was resurfaced in 2005 as part of a £5million redevelopment programme.

He said: "It is ridiculous - I don't think any other British track is this bad in the wet and to have a world championship race here with bikes doing these speeds is just a little bit wrong. Since they resurfaced the track, it has got worse than it was before in the wet. It has become dangerous."

He added: "I think everyone is running the softest wet tyres - and if anyone is running anything harder they are fooling themselves."

Defending champion Nicky Hayden, Pedrosa's team-mate in the Repsol Honda garage, was second-quickest and the Spaniard third, while Valentino Rossi, a five-time champion in motorcycling's blue-riband class, was a lowly 10th-fastest.
