The Middlesex left-hander has had no competitive action since the second final of the Commonwealth Bank Series against Australia in Sydney on February 11.

But England's stuttering batting performances during the World Cup have persuaded the selectors to recall Strauss at the expense of Middlesex team-mate Ed Joyce.

Strauss was overlooked for the start of the tournament after scoring only one half-century during the 10 matches in the one-day series Down Under, but England believe his experience will be crucial for the match.
