Strauss takes charge

Captain Andrew Strauss led from the front as England attempted to keep alive their hopes against Australia in the seven-match NatWest Series.

Strauss smashed seven fours in the first 15 overs as England raced to 98 for two with the skipper weighing in with 57 not out in the Lord's sunshine.

It was a positive and aggressive start by England in a must-win encounter after they had lost the first three matches.

The hosts had moved on to 29 when Joe Denly, making his first appearance of the series after being injured by a tackle by Owais Shah in that infamous pre-match kickabout before the first match at the Oval, was dismissed by Brett Lee for 11.

He was replaced in the middle by Ravi Bopara, who scored 26 from 36 balls before off-spinner Nathan Hauritz won a leg before decision.
