Strauss to lead Lions

Andrew Strauss will captain England Lions for the three-day match against India at Chelmsford next week.

Former England captain Strauss leads a second-string team including just one other Test player in Owais Shah.

"I know Andrew is delighted to be captaining the side and excited by the prospect of taking a look at India prior to the first npower Test," said chairman of selectors David Graveney.

"The team selection recognises those players who have performed well in the LV County Championship, and this match presents a great opportunity to impress the selectors.

"We've selected a strong side to ensure the touring team is well and truly tested before the upcoming Test series."

Warwickshire's Tim Ambrose is chosen behind the stumps, while Kent's Joe Denly will open.

Aspiring fast bowlers Stuart Broad, Graham Onions and Chris Tremlett will all get their chance to unsettle against a stellar Indian batting line-up.

County Championship leaders Yorkshire provide two of the XI, leg-spinning all-rounder Adil Rashid joined by England one-day player Tim Bresnan.

England face India in three Tests, starting at Lord's on July 19.

:: The England and Wales Cricket Board on Sunday confirmed the availability to their counties over the next week of those players likely to play a part in the forthcoming Test series.
