Surgery blow for Hutton

Tottenham full-back Alan Hutton will need an operation on his injured foot and is facing "a few months" on the sidelines, according to boss Harry Redknapp.

The 23-year-old Scotland international picked up the problem at the start of the campaign but had returned for the last month and played 90 minutes for his country last week against Argentina.

He underwent a scan at the start of the week and Spurs will seek further advice from specialists. Redknapp said: "It's quite serious, it is certainly going to be a few months. It looks like it will be long term."

He added: "It's the same injury that kept him out at the start of the year and they decided not to operate and it seems to have flared up again."

It is the second serious injury of Hutton's career - in 2005 he broke his leg while playing for Rangers and spent eight months out.

Hutton's absence leaves Redknapp with a problem at right-back for the UEFA Cup clash against NEC Nijmegen on Thursday as Vedran Corluka is cup-tied. Chris Gunter, Didier Zokora or youngster Adam Smith are options for the Spurs boss.

"I'll see him (Hutton) when I get back and obviously he is going to be a bit low," Redknapp added. "There was so much to play for this year. It's a big blow for him."
