That means Alastair Cook will lead the side in just his fourth Twenty20 appearance for his country, while there was also more bad news after Graeme Swann was ruled out because of a side problem.

Adil Rashid comes in for Swann and will look to contain the Proteas who won the toss and chose to bat.
