Sussex scored a 38-run victory over Yorkshire at Hove, while Nottinghamshire lost by nine wickets to Kent in a match held over from Tuesday because of a waterlogged Trent Bridge.
In Wednesday's other match, Warwickshire missed out on a showpiece on home turf when they were beaten by six runs by Lancashire, who now face Gloucestershire.
Opener Chris Nash got Sussex off to a flying start after they won the toss, with four boundaries off the first over bowled by Tim Bresnan, and Yorkshire did not help themselves with a slipshod display in the field.
The momentum was carried on in a second-wicket stand of 71 between Murray Goodwin (57) and Luke Wright, who hit three sixes in a 27-ball 45, as Sussex piled up 193 for five, with 41 runs coming off the last two overs.
Sussex also put down a series of catches but Mushtaq Ahmed kept the Yorkshire batsmen in check with his wily leg spin. Opener Craig White was caught behind off Saqlain Mushtaq for a 25-ball 47 as Yorkshire were all out for 155.
Notts captain Stephen Fleming won the toss and with fellow opener Graeme Swann put on a quickfire 82, but their efforts were undermined when six wickets fell for 29 runs, James Tredwell taking two for 19 and Simon Cook two for 17. Notts were all out for 138.
Joe Denly (63no) and Robert Key (54) put Kent on the way to victory with a first-wicket stand of 96 but they left it late before sneaking home with one ball to spare.
Wicketkeeper Gareth Cross hit five sixes and five fours in a top score of 62 as Lancashire piled up 193 for five at Edgbaston. The visitors, who won the toss, lost opener Mal Loye for eight with the score on 10, but Stuart Law (44) and Steve Croft (42no) gave support to Cross.
Neil Carter gave Warwickshire hope with a knock of 58, which included four sixes and seven fours and Jonathan Trott offered further resistance before falling one short of his half-century as Muttiah Muralitharan took four for 18 in his four overs.
