Prior suffered bruising during the second Test against the West Indies at The Riverside but scans showed there was no break.
He will nevertheless be rested for the remainder of the Twenty20 Cup despite being one of Sussex's most adept batsmen in the shortest form of the game.
A statement from the county read: "Sussex have announced that Matt Prior will be resting during the next few Twenty20 Cup games in order to allow his finger to heal fully ahead of a big summer for English cricket.
"Matt will be back in action for Sussex in the LV County Championship game against Yorkshire at Headingley on Saturday 6th to Tuesday 9th June as he looks to build up momentum for the Ashes series."
Prior is not part of England's World Twenty20 plans, with Essex wicketkeeper James Foster taking the gloves in the 15-man squad.
