Sven tipped for top 10

Former Manchester City shareholder John Ryan believes the club will secure a top 10 finish at least in the coming season under Sven-Goran Eriksson.

The Doncaster chairman saw his team lose 3-1 to City in a friendly on Saturday and is convinced the good times are just around the corner at Eastlands now the Swede is in charge.

Ryan said: "I feel under Sven they are in for a great season. I think they will finish comfortably in the top half of the Premier League. That will pave the way for a major challenge the season after for honours and Europe. The city of Manchester needs two top clubs."

Former England boss Eriksson has gone quickly about his business, signing 24-year-old striker Rolando Bianchi for £8.8million from Reggina and Switzerland Under-21 captain Gerson Fernandes from Sion for an undisclosed fee.

Eriksson said: "We have signed two young players and I hope the supporters are happy. That is the way we need to go for young players are the future of the club.

"Everyone knows there is a fantastic academy here at City and we must build on that. Fernandes is the best young talent in Switzerland and I am very happy he is here. I plan to play him in a holding role."
