Tait chooses Sale

Sale have announced the signing of Mathew Tait, hours after Newcastle confirmed the England centre would be leaving them at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old is one of three players who will make shock departures from Kingston Park this summer, with fellow England centre Toby Flood and flanker Ben Woods also on the way out.

All three had one year remaining on their contracts and Falcons chairman Dave Thompson revealed the club would receive fees for both Tait and Flood.

Tait has penned a three-year contract with the Sharks, who have not confirmed whether a transfer fee was paid for his services.

Chief executive James Jennings said, "I am delighted to be able to announce that Mathew Tait will join Sale Sharks at the start of next season.

"Mathew is an exceptional talent and an established England international. I am sure he will complement and strengthen our attacking options next season."

Director of rugby Philippe Saint Andre added: "This is fantastic news for the club. Mathew is a naturally gifted rugby player who can play at full-back, wing and outside centre.

"Although he is only 22, he has already won 23 caps for England and has still tremendous potential to develop further as a player."
