Tait hopes to end on winning note

Scotland defence coach Alan Tait expects to end his farewell match with victory against Argentina.

The former Kelso, Edinburgh, Scotland and Lions centre or wing will join Newcastle Falcons as assistant coach at the end of the summer tour.

"I have really enjoyed my time with Scotland. I have been a professional from 20 years now. I will be a bit sad I think, but I have to look to the future. I think this will improve me as a coach," said Tait. "I hope that I can learn something from this experience. I know I will. There are players like Johnny Wilkinson there (Newcastle) who can teach me more with his quality and talent."

Tait is ending his second spell with the national squad after an initial role from 2000 to 2003 before he returned under Frank Hadden's stewardship in 2005.

The 43-year-old won 27 caps during his career and helped the Falcons as a player to win the league title 10 years ago.

However, until Sunday his mind is focused on recovering from the 21-15 defeat against the Pumas in Rosario last week.

"We know that they have a lot of good players, we know the type of game they like playing and how tough they are. We are aware of that," he said.

Tait feels the inclusion of wingers Lucas Borges and Horacio Agulla for this Test has strengthened the Pumas.

"They have new backs in this week with more experience as they are boys from France. Maybe they will try to throw the ball up, but we need to be on top of them," he added.

"Argentina's back row are also always a threat to us. If you give them some space it could be devastating. All of a sudden the game is gone."
