Taylor goal enough for Bolton

09 January 2008
For the first time since mid-April Bolton manager Gary Megson can reflect on back-to-back victories after Taylor's 50th-minute half volley was all that separated the sides.
However, such a feat would not have come about but for Jaaskelainen who produced a virtual one-man show for the remainder of the half to frustrate all connected with the Tigers.
Hull had the edge in the first half as they probed down the flanks, and through the industrious Geovanni there was always an outlet. From his left-wing cross Marlon King clipped the crossbar with a backheel.
Daniel Cousin was also a whisker away in the 31st minute when he attacked George Boateng's cross and was inches wide with his header.
The Tigers paid for those missed chance as Bolton took the lead five minutes into the second half.
Gavin McCann's corner was met by Ian Ashbee's header and, when it came off the back of Gretar Steinsson, the ball sat up for Taylor to strike a half-volley from the edge of the area that crept inside Myhill's right-hand post.
A foul from Fabrice Muamba on Dean Marney gave Geovanni the perfect opportunity from 22 yards but a full-stretch Jaaskelainen clawed his shot away.
In the 70th minute Marney whipped in a fierce delivery and Geovanni seemed certain to score as he rose to nod the ball down into the turf, only for Jaaskelainen to somehow scrape the header off his line.
Jaaskelainen thwarted Geovanni in the 85th minute as his angled drive spun off the Finn's body. Three minutes later Jaaskelainen pushed away a shot from King before punching clear the loose ball with Geovanni poised score.
