Tendulkar halts England fightback

Sachin Tendulkar strengthened India's advantage in the final npower Test by striking with his first delivery to end a flourishing England middle-order fightback.

Tendulkar dismissed Kevin Pietersen to leave England struggling to avoid the follow-on in a Test they need to win to preserve an unbeaten home Test series record stretching back to 2001.

That breakthrough reduced England to 210 for five at tea - leaving them needing a further 255 runs just to make India bat again.

Leg-spinner Anil Kumble, who scored his maiden Test century on Friday, dismissed Alastair Cook and captain Michael Vaughan in successive overs before lunch.

But after slumping to 124 for four, England battled back until Tendulkar tempted Pietersen, who had battled for over two hours for his 41, into driving a spinning delivery and edged straight to India captain Rahul Dravid at slip.
