Theissen: Situation not yet solved
05 January 2009
Mosley this week fanned the flames by insisting if the nine 'rebel' teams were not happy with the rules for 2010 as they stand they can form their own championship.
"We have not had an official response from the FIA, and that's the next step," said BMW Sauber boss Theissen. "We will have to wait and see if we get one before June 12. We are waiting a reply, and only then we will decide what to do about it. But I said after the meeting in Monaco (a fortnight ago) that the situation is difficult. It is critical and not solved yet."
Ferrari, McLaren, Toyota, Renault, BMW Sauber, Red Bull Racing, Toro Rosso, Brawn GP and Force India last Friday submitted a conditional block entry, confirming they will sign up to F1 through to 2012, but with two concessions.
The nine stated they will not run under a voluntary budget cap, but rather via their own cost-cutting proposals over the next three years.
They are also demanding the re-signing of the Concorde Agreement - the regulatory and commercial document that governed F1 up until the end of 2007 - by all parties before next Friday.
Responding to Mosley's suggestion the nine marques could quit F1 and run their own series, Theissen added: "We are really committed to finding a solution with the FIA to go forward together."
Theissen has remarkably confirmed it was Mosley's suggestion the teams submit a conditional entry, hinting a compromise may yet be closer to hand than envisaged.
"It would be a surprise if he came back to us and said our entry was now against the rules," added Theissen.
With 10 new teams confirming they have lodged an entry with the FIA to operate under the voluntary budget cap, there is every prospect Mosley could side with them come next Friday.
