Thomson takes the hit for Rangers
24 January 2007
But the Rangers player insists the yellow card - which rules him out of the return match at the Nou Camp in a fortnight - was worth it to secure a goalless draw at Ibrox.
"We are optimistic but I am gutted to be missing the game," he said. "But I felt it was worth it because (Thierry) Henry was in a dangerous position. I just gave him a wee tug and he went down."
He added: "My family are going over for the game so I am disappointed that I'm going to miss out and won't be playing.
"I didn't think about it at the time - I just put it to the back of my mind and got on with it."
Thomson earned his third caution of the tournament for a tug on a goalbound Thierry Henry and will now have to watch the glamour match from the sidelines.
Ronaldinho, Henry and Lionel Messi all had chances to find the back of the net but staunch defending from the Rangers back four and an impressive display from goalkeeper Allan McGregor meant a precious point for Walter Smith's men.
"We got what we deserved," Thomson added.
"It was a hard shift all round and when the two minutes added on time went up at the end, it felt like 22 minutes.
"We had our chances and tried to play but we have got a massive result. It was fantastic, especially after the Old Firm result at the weekend."
