The 27-year-old, who can play at stand-off, scrum-half or full-back, has led the Giants for the past three years having previously played for London Broncos, Sheffield Eagles and Australian NRL side Parramatta Eels.

Hull coach Richard Agar said: "Chris ticks a lot of boxes for us. He is an excellent kicker of the ball and a first class goal-kicker. He will provide much-needed competition for places in some key positions. Chris has proven leadership abilities and I look forward to working with him in 2009."

Thorman added: "I'm excited to be joining such a big club as Hull FC. It is a fresh challenge for me; they are a very ambitious club and I can't wait to play my part to help in realising those ambitions."

Thorman has international honours to his name having captained England twice in 2005. He was called up to the Great Britain squad for the Test match against France last year but missed out through injury.

The Wallsend-born player also holds the world record for the fastest hat-trick of tries in either code of rugby, scored for the Giants in 2005.
