Paramedics rushed down the tunnel to attend to Clarke shortly after the half-time whistle and a Leicester spokesman confirmed the player was receiving medical attention in an ambulance and was conscious.
The restart was initially delayed for 15 minutes before a further 10-minute delay was announced over the tannoy.
Forest boss Colin Calderwood and Leicester manager Martin Allen then emerged from the tunnel to make an announcement to the crowd.
Calderwood said: "We are afraid that due to the serious illness of a Leicester player both clubs have agreed to postpone the match."
The Reds had held a 1-0 lead over their east midlands counterparts courtesy of Junior Agogo's 31st-minute strike.
The 27-year-old has since been taken to hospital in Nottingham and Leicester chief executive Tim Davies revealed Allen had made attempts to contact the Irishman's family.
Davies said: "When Clive went into the dressing room he collapsed and was very seriously ill. He was taken away in an ambulance to hospital. He did offer a few words in the ambulance.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Clive and his family - we hope he makes a speedy recovery. I would like to say a big thank you to Nottingham Forest for dealing with the matter so fast."
Forest chief executive Mark Arthur added: "I think football is secondary to human issues. As soon as we found out the serious nature of Clive's situation, we went straight to the referee and said we would do whatever is right by Leicester."
