Tigers pounce on Edmondson

Castleford have signed former St Helens back-row forward Mark Edmondson on a 12-month deal.

The 27-year-old Edmondson spent eight seasons with Saints and was a member of their Challenge Cup-winning team of 2004. He also had a season-long spell with Sydney Roosters in 2006 before joining relegated Salford earlier this year.

"I'm delighted to be joining Cas," said Edmondson. "I have always known it to be a good club with some great fans, and it's great to have this opportunity to get back to the top."

He added: "The injury problems seem to be out of the way and I'm looking forward to a good pre-season.

"It's almost like a fresh start for me and another chance, so I'm determined to go for it."

The Tigers have also given a new 12-month contract to former Wakefield winger Michael Wainwright, who was in their National League One Grand Final-winning team.

"We believe that we have made two good signings in Mark and Mike, especially as they probably both feel that they have something to prove," said Castleford chief executive Richard Wright.
