Tigers target Pizarro

Hull have identified Chelsea marksman Claudio Pizarro as the latest solution to their striking problems.

The Barclays Premier League newcomers have made enquiries about Pizarro, who scored only two goals in 31 appearances for the Blues last season.

"We've made contact with Chelsea with regards to Claudio," Hull boss Phil Brown told the Hull Daily Mail.

He added: "It's a very expensive option, but again, it would be an option if we were allowed to speak to the lad. If that happened then who knows?

"But as far as we are concerned we have made contact with Chelsea and that's where it lies at the moment."

Pizarro - who has also been linked with a loan move to Stoke - arrived at Stamford Bridge on a free transfer from Bayern Munich last summer but made little impression.

The out-of-favour Peruvian is reported to be surplus to requirements at Chelsea but he may have to wait for an update on the Blues' approach for Robinho before being allowed to leave.

Hull open their Premier League campaign against Fulham on Saturday with striker Caleb Folan a doubt after sustaining an abductor injury.

The Tigers have already seen moves for Kevin Davies, Marlon King and Fraizer Campbell fall through and will start with Dean Windass up front against the Cottagers.
