Time works against Timo

Toyota's Timo Glock has been ruled out of next weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix due to an injury he suffered at Suzuka in the previous round.

The German was admitted to hospital after a high-speed crash at the Japanese circuit last Saturday, but had been expected to be fit to drive at Interlagos after he was diagnosed with only a cut leg.

Further tests in Germany this week, however, have revealed the 27-wear-old sustained a cracked vertebra in the incident - and he will now be replaced by Toyota's third driver Kamui Kobayashi.

Toyota team president John Howett admitted Glock's injury may spell the end of his season, with his involvement in the season-ending Abu Dhabi GP to be decided.

"Obviously everyone in the team is very disappointed and feels for Timo; we wish him a very speedy recovery," he said.

"Based on the initial diagnosis, we fully expected Timo to return in Brazil but unfortunately a different injury has been revealed which prevents that.

"He will remain in Germany to recover and we hope he can recuperate in time for Abu Dhabi, although at this stage the situation is not clear.

"Kamui was the natural choice to step in and he proved in Suzuka that he is capable of holding his own.

"It is a difficult task for him but he knows the team will give him their complete support and we know he is motivated to make the most of this unexpected opportunity."
