United head to Celtic on Wednesday knowing victory at Parkhead will effectively seal a place in the knockout stages with two games to spare.
That would give Sir Alex Ferguson the possibility of resting some of his stars for the final group game with Aalborg, but Carrick knows the target will ensure his team-mates remain fully motivated and said: "No-one has won the Champions League twice in a row before but that is the goal."
He added: "We set ourselves high standards and we have done it once. Why not again?
"There is no doubt the possibility of winning it again will drive us on this season.
"I have been at United for a couple of years now and know that winning things just makes you want to win more.
"It is not a case of thinking we have won the Champions League or I have done the Premier League, I will settle for that at the end of my career. I want to do it again and again.
"Moscow seems to pop up wherever you go now but in some ways you want to put it at the back of your mind because it doesn't really count for much now.
"It is nice to reflect on because it was such a special night but all that matters is being there in Rome at the end of May."
