Title should silence critics - Lennon

Neil Lennon is hoping Gordon Strachan's third successive Clydesdale Bank Premier League title win will give the Celtic manager immunity from the Parkhead boo-boys.

The former Celtic captain listened to disgruntled fans voicing their displeasure at Strachan at the final whistle after the 1-0 home defeat by Motherwell looked to have handed the championship to rivals Rangers. But a seven-game unbeaten run helped win the championship on the last day of the season with a 1-0 win at Dundee United.

Lennon said: "I would hate to think any of the fans would turn on Gordon now after what he's given the club over the last three seasons."

Speaking at the launch of the stage production which celebrates Celtic's trip to Seville for the UEFA Cup final in 2003, Lennon added: "I've never seen him as happy as he was in the dressing room when we beat Dundee United and Rangers lost at Aberdeen to decide the outcome of the title.

"It was clear the championship win meant more to him than anything he'd achieved in his career before, and I knew how Gordon felt.

"I'd won titles with Celtic as a player and went to Seville as part of the UEFA Cup final team.

"But the circumstances of Tommy Burns' death (from cancer) and the knowledge of where we'd come from to win the league made Tannadice extra special."
