Tomlinson withdraws from indoors
04 January 2009
Tomlinson feels he is not fully prepared to mount a challenge for the title.
"The indoors season hasn't quite progressed as I would have liked and I just feel I'm not in the right shape to do myself justice in Turin," said Tomlinson, last year's world indoor silver medallist. "I will focus on getting fit for my warm-weather training stint in San Diego and onwards for the outdoor season."
Tomlinson's announcement was the fourth withdrawal in the last 24 hours from the Aviva GB team, which must be frustrating for newly-appointed head coach Charles van Commenee.
Van Commenee, who will be in charge of the squad for the first time since taking up his post, said: "Chris has an Achilles problem which hasn't recovered after competing in Prague last week."
On Monday, 1,500metres runner Chris Warburton, pentathlete Kelly Sotherton and long-jumper Jade Johnson pulled out of the championships.
