Torres: Don't sack Rafa

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has reiterated his support for manager Rafael Benitez and claims it would be a "mistake" for the club to replace him.

Benitez's future remains uncertain despite an apparent thaw in his relationship with owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks following a disagreement over transfer policy. The Reds are under pressure to deliver as they face a crucial Champions League clash at Marseille on Tuesday night.

Torres said: "It would be a huge mistake to think about changing the manager if we don't get the win we need."

He added: "Rafa Benitez has done so much for this club and the staff, players and fans are behind him.

"It is the most important match since I joined."

Liverpool's Group A campaign has gone down to last game after their failure to win any of their opening three matches.

They have retrieved the situation by beating Besiktas and Porto at home but they must win at the Stade Velodrome to reach the last 16 again.

Torres added: "It is going to be very intense with emotions running high because there is a lot riding on it for Marseille and they will have the crowd behind them.

"But these are the games I came to England for. These are the experiences I wanted when I joined Liverpool."
