The 21-year-old has won five tournaments and reached the final of the US Open only to be beaten by former world number one Roger Federer.

"I never worked so hard in my life as I did during those weeks in Miami last Christmas," said the world number four.

It follows a season of frustration in 2007 when Murray's campaign was heavily disrupted by a wrist injury which ruled him out of the French Open and Wimbledon. He then split with coach Brad Gilbert in November 2007.

Rather than disrupting his progress, however, it has proved to be the correct move for the Dunblane-born player who has since taken great strides.

He employed a new team to improve his physical fitness and resolved to come back even stronger.

Murray told www.ATPtennis.com: "Having finished that season so strongly, I wanted to come back in even better form.

"There was no torture I wouldn't consider, including track work for the first time in my life."

He employed Miles Maclagan as coach, two fitness coaches in Matt Little and Jez Green and physiotherapist Andrew Ireland and their work paid off.

Murray added: "We went to the gym, the track, the court, the yoga studio and despite that I still put on weight because I started to eat much more than I'd ever done. I could eat 42 pieces of sushi in one sitting."
