Touring car hero killed - reports

Former British Touring Car Championship star David Leslie is reported to be among five people killed in a jet crash on Sunday.

The plane crashed into a house in Farnborough, Kent, and burst into flames but fortunately nobody on the ground was injured as the couple who lived there were away on holiday.

Those who died have not yet been formally identified but they are said to include pilot Mike Roberts, Leslie and fellow passenger Richard Lloyd, 63, the boss of Apex Motorsport who was a former touring car champion.

Leslie won nine races in a 13-year BTCC career and finished second in the championship behind Frenchman Laurent Aiello in 1999.

The 54-year-old Scot raced for six teams - BMW, Vauxhall, Mazda, Honda, Nissan and Proton - before retiring in 2003 and had since worked as a commentator for Eurosport.
