Trapattoni tips Capello for success

Giovanni Trapattoni is backing compatriot Fabio Capello to be a big hit with England.

The 69-year-old Italian is convinced the former AC Milan and Real Madrid boss has the experience to make a success of his new job as he attempts to guide the nation to the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.

"Fabio was in Spain and it was not easy, now he is in England with a big team. I have confidence in him and respect him," the Republic of Ireland manager said.

"Every coach has experience in their country and I know every player grows with every coach.

"Capello has been a coach with big stars - it is not easy in Spanish football.

"I am happy here because the first day I said, 'we have to believe. I am not God'. I have worked with many foreign players, but football is football.

"International football is different. The younger players are hungry to learn - the older players, the famous, study you and make comparisons.

"Over the last three games, after I have told the players to be careful in certain situations, they have said afterwards, 'excuse me, you were right'.

"It is important the players believe in you.

"Capello has the experience of many, many years in Milan, and also in Spain."
