UEFA pondering Eduardo action

Arsenal striker Eduardo could be charged with diving by UEFA following the incident in which he won a penalty against Celtic.

European football's governing body chose to examine tapes of the moment the Croatia international appeared to throw himself to the ground in the penalty area during Wednesday's Champions League play-off clash at the Emirates Stadium.

UEFA disciplinary officials will decide on Friday whether to act, and Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith has already called for Eduardo to be punished retrospectively.

A UEFA spokesman said: "We are reviewing the match to see whether a disciplinary investigation should be launched."

UEFA president Michel Platini confirmed Eduardo could be suspended and said his plan of having two additional assistant referees (AARs), one next to each goal, would cut down on diving.

Platini, speaking in Monaco, said: "There are disciplinary procedures at UEFA and the procedure could be taken to suspend the player.

"Scotland often start such procedures - last time it was a Lithuania player who was sanctioned."
