Unchanged Proteas elect to bat

Australia and South Africa both named unchanged sides as they attempted to claim the victory which would earn them a place in Saturday's World Cup final.

Reigning champions Australia were so confident in their line-up they named it on Tuesday having kept faith with the side who hammered New Zealand in their final Super Eight match in Grenada.

South Africa were considering bringing in spinner Robin Peterson to give them greater bowling options, but instead chose to name the same side that claimed a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over England to seal their place in the last four.

Although they were massive underdogs for Wednesday's second semi-final, South Africa were given an early boost with captain Graeme Smith winning the toss and deciding to bat first.

It gives them a chance of setting a competitive target and putting Australia under pressure, although Ricky Ponting's side are yet to win by less than seven wickets batting second during the tournament.
