The Durham man has attracted his fair share of criticism during the Test series for his wayward bowling, but he shrugged off the criticism on the final day to finish with 4-95 as England completed a tense 60-run victory to extend their unbeaten streak in home series to 11.
Vaughan, who said: "We showed character as a team and he showed more character than any of us. I've never been a bowler but I can only imagine how hard it can be when you know you're not at your best and you know that you're struggling and you're having to continue to bowl in front of many people watching."
He added: "He obviously looked at himself, answered a few questions and came back in the second innings and really worked hard.
"I wouldn't like to say he's back to his best, but he's certainly back to some real consistency in the second innings.
"I'm really pleased for him because he has worked hard, he's worked a few things out and he deserves a little bit of success."
