Vaughan: I'm to blame

England captain Michael Vaughan claims he is baffled by the reaction to his comments about Andrew Flintoff's misdemeanours at the recent World Cup and insists only he is to blame for the side's poor performance.

Vaughan was on Tuesday quoted as saying that Flintoff's drunken antics in the Caribbean "changed the whole atmosphere" in the England camp, and they eventually went on to flop, exiting at the end of the Super Eight stage.

But far from blaming Flintoff for his side's poor showing in the tournament, Vaughan told Sky Sports News: "If anyone is to blame it is Michael Vaughan, not Andrew Flintoff. I will never single out one player for blame."

Speaking ahead of the third npower Test against West Indies, which begins at Old Trafford on Thursday, he added: "It really is a bit baffling how it has ended like this.

"One word has changed the whole context for a Test match.

"I just want to win the series. We want the team to continue where they left off (at Headingley). We could win the series this week and that's where our focus lies.

"The team hasn't been affected because it's been blown out of all proportion."
