Vaughan targets Ashes return

Michael Vaughan is determined to force his way back into the England side and face Australia in next year's Ashes series.

The 33-year-old resigned as England captain earlier this month after South Africa had taken an unassailable 2-0 lead at Edgbaston to claim a series win.

"I want to play in the Ashes and I think realistically I've to try and get back in the next six or seven months. If not, the start of next summer," he told Sky Sports 1.

"So games for Yorkshire are crucial and hopefully (I will) go to India, (and) force my way in the team.

"If not, the Caribbean - (they are) two teams I've had a lot of success against.

"And then early next summer Sri Lanka, if they come, and then the big Ashes series.

"I'm fortunate. In the next year I'm playing the four teams I've got the best record against.

"So confidence will be high, the buzz of wanting to get out there is there. I want to bat."

Asked whether he would like to return as opener, Vaughan continued: "I honestly don't care, I want to get in the team."
