England are due to name their party for the forthcoming one-day series against West Indies after the ongoing fourth npower Test between the two teams at the Riverside.
"I personally would like Michael Vaughan's body looked after," Hussain told Sky Sports News. "He has been an exceptional Test captain but if he plays in all the one-dayers, I don't think he will last. I would like to see it handled delicately so he can go out on his own terms."
Vaughan initially took over from Hussain as one-day captain in 2003 before taking the Test job soon after.
Hussain believes all-rounder Paul Collingwood is the man to take over.
He added: "There are three obvious candidates in Paul Collingwood, Kevin Pietersen and Alastair Cook, but I would go for Paul Collingwood."
