Venables on Bulgaria shortlist

Terry Venables has been approached to become the next manager of Bulgaria.

The former England boss, who lost his job as national team number two when Steve McClaren was sacked last month, is on the Bulgarian Football Union's seven-man shortlist.

BFU president Borislav Mihaylov confirmed Venables is in the running to be the permanent successor to Hristo Stoichkov, who quit in April, telling The Sun: "I don't want to reveal the names of the foreign coaches we've talked to because we're still negotiating with them. But I can tell you we've held talks with Macedonia coach Srecko Katanec and we're waiting for Terry Venables' answer as well."

Venables has also been linked the Republic of Ireland vacancy.
