Venus looks to emulate sister
03 January 2007
Serena's bid for a third title at the All England Club looked set to end in agony as the seventh seed collapsed to the turf with an acute muscle spasm in the left leg. However, a rain delay of almost two hours gave Williams time to recover and she fought back with typical intensity to win the match 6-2 6-7 6-2.
Sister Venus will meet Maria Sharapova for a place in the quarter-finals on Centre Court after emerging victorious on the "graveyard of champions" against Akiko Morigami.
The 27-year-old three-times former champion defied the curse of Court Two for the second time in seven days.
Williams had to come from behind to win her first-round match against Russia's Alla Kudryavtseva, and was on the brink against Morigami before securing a 6-2 3-6 7-5 win.
"I like Court Two," she said. "Court Two is where I've had a lot of great times, so it's okay."
