Top-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova also made the last eight, inflicting a 6-2 6-3 defeat on Jie Zheng of China, and will take on compatriot Dinara Safina.

Second seed Jelena Jankovic from Serbia also cruised into the quarters thanks to a 6-2 6-0 victory over 16th seed Alona Bondarenko of the Ukraine.

She will next face sixth-seeded compatriot Ana Ivanovic, who easily defeated Nathalie Dechy of France 6-1 6-1.

Daniela Hantuchova, the third seed from Slovakia, defeated unseeded compatriot Dominika Cibulkova 6-1 6-4 to set up a clash with 13th-seeded Austrian Sybille Bammer.
