Villa reject fresh Reds Barry bid

Aston Villa on Wednesday night confirmed they have rejected a "renewed offer" from Liverpool for midfielder Gareth Barry.

Reds manager Rafael Benitez has already had three bids for the 27-year-old turned down by Villa, who disciplined Barry for speaking out against manager Martin O'Neill.

A statement on the club website said: "The report in today's paper of a £17million offer for Gareth Barry is inaccurate. The club have received a renewed offer from Liverpool for the player but that still falls well short of Aston Villa's evaluation, and has subsequently been rejected."
