Wasps crash out

Wasps slipped out of the Heineken Cup after a 21-15 defeat at Castres on Sunday.

The two-time European champions had to win in the south of France to keep alive their hopes of progressing to the quarter-finals - and looked to be on course when Dominic Waldouck handed them the lead 13 minutes from time.

But a host of missed chances before a second try for Thomas Bouquie handed Castres their second win of the campaign, ending Wasps' interest in this season's tournament.

Four first-half penalties from Felipe Contepomi proved enough for Leinster to beat Edinburgh 12-3 at the RDS and qualify for the quarter-finals.

The Irish province's 19-12 defeat by Wasps last weekend set up a final-day showdown in Pool Two as Leinster and Wasps, locked together on 16 points at the top of the table, looked to better each other's result on Sunday.

Wasps' defeat left Leinster to make it through to the tournament's last eight as pool winners, courtesy of the four points garnered against Edinburgh.

Defending champions Munster secured a home quarter-final in the Heineken Cup following their 39-13 bonus-point victory over Montauban.

A brace of tries from Lifeimi Mafi and replacement back Barry Murphy added to Tomas O'Leary's opener for an emphatic win.

Ireland fly-half Ronan O'Gara booted 12 points for Munster in a disciplined and professional display in the south of France.
