Webb to ref Spain game

Webb has been handed the task of officiating Wednesday's Group C match between Greece and Spain despite coming in for criticism in his first outing. Webb awarded a controversial penalty to Austria against Poland, allowing Ivica Vastic to snatch a draw for the co-hosts. The 36-year-old has since been subjected to a hate campaign from the Polish public, sparked by comments made by the prime minister.
"All the referees who are here are top-class referees," said UEFA spokesman Rob Faulkner.
"They have all been refereeing top matches in Europe, specifically working together with their two assistants in language trios."
Of the contentious late decision in Vienna to penalise Marcin Wasilewski for his challenge on Roman Kienast, Faulkner added: "In finals of European Championships there are calls and decisions to be made.
"We came out straight afterwards and backed the referee in that instance. He made a decision - a brave decision.
"From our point of view, I think the referees' committee will fully back him and hence the appointment (for Greece v Spain). It's not an issue for us."
