Fiorentina became the seventh European team to fail to score in Govan this season when they were held to a goalless draw in the first leg of their semi-final on Thursday.
"For the majority of the game we had Jean-Claude Darcheville and Nacho Novo up front," said Weir. "We work hard defensively but that shouldn't be a criticism, we should get a bit of credit for that."
He added: "Maybe we are getting a little bit stereotyped as being defensive and hard to beat but that is not an easy thing to do.
"Of course we can get a result over there. This team is capable of getting a result anywhere and we've shown that. When we get asked questions, we keep answering them.
"The minimum was a clean sheet and we were happy to come away with that. They are a top team with top players.
"But we have played in the Champions League against some great teams and even in the UEFA Cup we have played against teams like Sporting Lisbon and Werder Bremen.
"There will be a lot of fans going over there and so it was important that we were still in the tie and we can give them something to shout about."
Rangers substitute Thomas Buffel, who is back in the fold only due to injury and suspension in the Ibrox squad, believes the Ibrox side can do enough in Florence next week to reach a European final for the first time in 36 years.
He said: "We are very confident of winning the tie. We have showed that we can go away and score goals and if we get one goal it will make it more difficult for them."
