Wenger draws hope from Gunners comeback

Manager Arsene Wenger feels there is renewed hope for Arsenal's campaign ahead after his side came from behind to snatch a dramatic 2-1 first-day victory at home to Fulham.

The Gunners head to the Czech Republic for a crucial Champions League qualifier against Sparta Prague this week buoyed by their performance.

"The players were giving everything to win. As long as you have that in a team, you have hope," said the Arsenal manager, who rates summer signing Eduardo da Silva as 50-50 for Wednesday's game in Prague. "Nobody could ever measure it in terms of psychology, but it is important."

He added: "You can get momentum from these things, and especially belief. They never give up any more.

"To have lost the game would have been a big blow for the team because everyone would have said it was after Thierry Henry had left.

"This is the kind of result that can change a season for a team. It is a positive start."

Wenger revealed Lehman was "the happiest boy in the dressing room", following Arsenal's recovery.

The veteran German had earlier made a complete hash of an attempted return pass to the defence, striking the ball against his left leg and gifting possession to Healy.

The Northern Ireland international - a £1.5million summer signing from Leeds - could not believe his luck and promptly slotted into an empty net for a first Premier League goal inside a minute.

Wenger said: "Every goalkeeper can make a mistake. He made one. If you are an outfield player you are not punished, but you are in goal."
