Wenger hails Adebayor at the double

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hailed the heroics of hat-trick hero Emmanuel Adebayor - and then admitted he would have been happy had the striker scored half of this season's goal tally.

The Togo international reached 30 for the campaign with three goals in a stunning second-half performance in tonight's 6-2 victory over Derby at Pride Park - his second against the relegated Rams this term after netting the same number in September's 5-0 win at The Emirates.

Asked if he expected the forward to reach the 30-goal barrier, Wenger replied: "No, but I feel in this team you can score goals."

He added: "You will always get good service, it is not only down to the strikers. Everybody tries to make life easier for the strikers."

And after acknowledging he had anticipated around 15 goals from his leading marksman, he said: "I think he took advantage of the work the team had done in the first half, it was easier. We know he can score goals, he has now scored 24 (in the league) but Van Persie played well and (Nicklas) Bendtner played well as well."

And Wenger insists his side, who led the league for six months of the campaign, are stronger than when they began the season.

"This team for me has a good future," said the Gunners boss. "We have 77 points tonight and we wanted to win our three games remaining this season.

"For me the team has grown and we're now stronger than we were at the start of the season but we went through a difficult patch in March and we have paid for that."
