Wenger 'positive' on contract talks

Arsene Wenger does not want his own future to be unsettling for Arsenal and is hoping to have a positive outcome from contract talks soon.

The Frenchman's position at the Emirates Stadium has been the subject of speculation this summer amid suggestions he might choose not to extend his current contract which expires at the end of the season.

"I do not want to be unsettling," he said. "I am highly committed to the club, I have shown that many, many times in my life and I don't think anybody can question that. We are talking and usually when we talk, there is always a positive outcome. At the moment nothing is done, but hopefully soon."

The board are keen for Wenger, who has revolutionised the club since arriving in September 1996, to sign a new deal as soon as possible.

Arsenal sold Thierry Henry to Barcelona in the summer while veteran midfielder Freddie Ljungberg joined West Ham as the dismantling of the 'Invincibles' side of 2003/2004 continued.

Croatia striker Eduardo da Silva and defender Bacary Sagna have both been added to the squad.

Despite still having plenty of cash in reserve should he need it, Wenger does not intend to make any panic buys before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

"We have funds available to buy if I want to," he said. "I always look at my team and what we need to be strong and I feel we are strong, I don't feel we need more.

"But we are always listening. If something comes up we have the funds to do it, but we don't have a special need."
