Wenger to discuss Flamini future

Arsene Wenger may be prepared to allow unsettled midfielder Mathieu Flamini to leave Arsenal this summer.

The 23-year-old claimed earlier this week that he was considering his options to due a lack of first-team football, and Wenger said he understood his frustration.

"We have heard about Flamini, who is keen to go and play somewhere where he will get some more games," Wenger told Arsenal TV Online. "I'll regret it but I feel at the moment we have to be understanding as well with him. We'll sit down at the end of the season and see where we go from there."

Wenger refused to be drawn on speculation linking Arsenal with highly-rated Sevilla full-back Daniel Alves.

Instead, he challenged his current squad of players to show the desire needed to overhaul Liverpool for third place in the Barclays Premiership. The Gunners' boss was critical of Saturday's performance at Anfield, which saw his side dismantled 4-1 and drop to fourth in the table.

Wenger is concerned about a dip in form after Arsenal's trophy hopes were ended by defeats in the three cup competitions last month.

He said: "I don't want to finish fourth, I want to finish third. We have a game in hand and I feel we want to bounce back quickly and that will decide where we finish.

"I feel the players want to compete but, subconsciously maybe, the disappointment of the Champions League exit is still there somewhere and you feel, 'okay, let's just finish the season'.

"It doesn't work like that. You need, to win games, to be really up for it, focused and competitive.

"Sometimes you can forget the kind of urgency you need to win games away from home."
