Wenger wary of overseas games

Chairmen of the 20 member clubs have agreed to explore the proposal of an extra 'international round' of fixtures in five major cities across the world from the 2010-11 season.
"It deserves a deeper look into it, and you always have to think forward." The Arsenal boss declared: "But if the money is the first priority forget it because it will become a circus. The first priority is the quality of your competition, and you have to take time to think about that."
The concept has been generated a mixed response from both those inside the game, the world governing body FIFA and also supporters' groups.
Highly-respected French coach Wenger believes if the idea is properly researched and then instigated fairly, it could prove beneficial for the future of the Premier League - but should not just be introduced to purely generate extra income.
"I am not against innovation, by principle, and I like that somebody thinks how can we promote the Premier League and promote English football," said Wenger.
"But you have to respect basic criteria - the competitiveness of our league, the fairness of our league, and as well make sure that it is a promotion for our football.
With overseas television audiences already established for the Premier League, it was perhaps inevitable the demand for "live" action was set to follow.
Wenger continued: "We have certainly created a new fan base, but I don't believe just going on a pre-season tour is enough now because they have access to all our competitive games on the television.
"Football is already global, but through television or media. The next step is to make it global with access for competition. Do you want to give the fans around the world something? I can agree with the idea. Is that the best way to do it? That has to be checked because I am not completely sure."
