Westwood ready for Kiwi challenge

Warrington forward Ben Westwood is gearing himself up for the biggest match of his career in England's final group game against New Zealand on Saturday.

The 27-year-old is expected to be one of six new faces in Tony Smith's team for the game in Newcastle as they seek to restore the pride shattered by Australia in record-breaking fashion in Melbourne last Sunday.

"I've always wanted a chance to have a go against the Aussies or the Kiwis, and I've got one this week," he said. "I'm looking forward to it and hopefully it will go well."

He added: "I've never appeared in Grand Finals or Challenge Cup finals. The biggest game was when we beat Leeds in the play-offs in 2006, so it's pretty big for me.

"It's like a debut. My England debut was against Wales so it wasn't really much of a Test match, even though it was classed as one. This is the real thing."

Centre Paul Sykes and forwards Rob Purdham, Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Mickey Higham and Jamie Langley are also set to be given a chance to catch the coach's eye.

Westwood is expected to start on the bench and provide relief for skipper Jamie Peacock and Adrian Morley, the team's only specialist props following the loss of Maurie Fa'asavalu with a broken finger and Smith's decision to rest James Graham.
