Wildcats pounce for Petersen

United States international Matt Petersen is expected to sign for Wakefield Wildcats this week after being granted an immediate release from his contract with the Gold Coast Titans.

The 28-year-old full-back or winger, who played for America in the World Cup qualifying campaign last year, is thought to have agreed a two-and-a-half year deal with Wakefield.

Petersen, a former player with Parramatta, was out of contract at the end of the season, played his final National Rugby League game for the Titans against Newcastle on Saturday night.

Titans managing director Michael Searle said the club did not want to stand in the way of Petersen taking up an "outstanding" overseas deal.
