Wilkin handed one-match ban

St Helens' Great Britain forward Jon Wilkin will miss Friday's Super League derby with Wigan after being handed a one-match ban for his dismissal against Bradford last Friday.

The 21-year-old back rower became the second player to be sent off in Super League this year when he was shown a red card for a high tackle on Bulls substitute Matt James in Saints' 10-4 defeat at Odsal.

Wilkin was found guilty of a reckless tackle when he appeared before the Rugby League's disciplinary committee and, in addition to his ban, was fined £300.

It means he will be free to play in the first Challenge Cup semi-final against Bradford at Huddersfield on Saturday week.

Wakefield prop Danny Sculthorpe was also handed a one-match ban and a £300 fine after being found guilty of a deliberate high tackle "with no consequence".

Sculthorpe, who was put on report for the challenge during his side's 24-23 home defeat by Huddersfield, will miss Friday's derby at Leeds.

Sculthorpe's Wakefield team-mate Adam Watene was cleared to face the Rhinos when he was found not guilty of making a dangerous tackle in the same match.
