Williams admits to practice showboating

Frank Williams has admitted to a degree of "showboating" from his team in practice this season.

Nico Rosberg again finished quickest following Thursday's two 90-minute runs ahead of Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix, and for the ninth time in 17 sessions overall this year, but the German has failed to translate such form into qualifying or the race - with his best grid slot fifth.

Williams, though, concedes to being frustrated the performances in practice are not being repeated on a Saturday and Sunday, and said: "The word is showboating perhaps. A bit too much of that probably. Formula One always finds out the truth pretty quickly."

He added: "If you are quick, the race will tell you that you are quick or the public (will do). In practice, you can fool people, including yourself."

Williams' view contradicts that of director of engineering Patrick Head, who earlier this week denied any grandstanding, insisting it was simply the team running lighter levels of fuel.

Dismissing any possibility of satisfaction or happiness, Williams added: "I think I have just said I am not in those words."

Williams, though, feels Sunday's race - as always at this venue - is "just unpredictable."

He added: "The best way to review anything like that is to look at the results after each and every race, that's why we are here."

Lewis Hamilton offered up hope of a repeat of last year's win at this track, one of the highlights of his career, with the second fastest time overall, just 0.202 seconds behind Rosberg with Rubens Barrichello third fastest.
