Williams wins in straight sets

Second seed Serena Williams made light work of her first meeting with Italy's Roberta Vinci to become the first woman to win through to the fourth round.

The two-time former champion gained a routine 6-3 6-4 victory on Court Two to set up a meeting with Daniela Hantuchova or Ai Sugiyama for a place in the quarter-finals.

Williams, who lost only nine games in her first two matches, twice dropped her serve to suggest she is not yet firing on all cylinders but still managed to hit 34 winners against the world number 53.

France's Virginie Razzano was given a free passage through to the fourth round at Wimbledon today when seventh seed Vera Zvonareva pulled out with an ankle injury.

Razzano, seeded 26th, will face either former Wimbledon finalist Marion Bartoli or Francesca Schiavone in the fourth round.

Fourth seed Elena Dementieva today needed just 59 minutes to book her place in the fourth round at Wimbledon by thrashing fellow Russian Regina Kulikova.

Dementieva raced through the opening set in 24 minutes and although debutant Kulikova improved slightly in the second, the Olympic champion easily secured a 6-1 6-2 victory on Court One.
